Industry Overview
Agriculture represents more than half of the non-oil and gas export earnings and employs almost sixty percent (60%) of the working population in Cameroon.
The agriculture market in Cameroon as at 2023 was estimated at USD 11.26 billion and is expected to reach USD 13.57 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 3.80% during the forecasted period (2023-2028).
Cameroon’s agriculture sector has an enormous potential due to the rich nature of her soils, with an estimated 7.2 million hectares of arable land (with less than 2 million being cultivated), 400 km of maritime coastline, 2 million hectares of pasture and a diverse climate with seven agroecological zones.
Major agricultural exports include: Cocoa, coffee and cotton, bananas, rubber.
The main subsistence crops include: Plantains, beans, potatoes, yams, cassava (manioc), corn (maize), oil palm, millet, peanuts (groundnuts) & tomato.
