20 tons Daily Cassava Processing Plant Inaugurated in Ngulemakong (South Region).

In-line with Cameroons the implementation of Cameroon’s import-substitution policy, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe, has inaugurated a Cassava processing plant with processing Capacity of 20 tons daily.

The Plant owned by Societe Des Producteur De Manioc (SOCOOPRAMAM), has production lines for Garri, Starch and Cassava flour. Financed by the Agricultural Markets and Development Project (PIDMA) at 441million FCFA.

The Cameroonian government introduced the import-substitution policy in 2021 to replace imports with locally produced goods. To encourage investments in domestic production and discourage imports, the government implemented various measures, including tax and customs incentives, as well as adjustments to excise duties on certain imported products.

The Ngoulemakong Cassava Plant is a significant step in reducing the nations reliance on wheat flour imports. As outlined by the Minister in his inauguration speech seven other processing plants will be located at Bangem in the South-West region, Dibombari in the Littoral region, Lobo and Batchenga in the Centre region and at Mvangan in the South region.
