Agro-Processing in Cameroon

Cameroon’s agriculture sector has an enormous potential due to the rich nature of her soils, favorable for the cultivation of a wide range of food crops.

With the availability of low-cost labour, Cameroon’s agriculture potential provides a cheap source of raw materials for investors and businesses in involved in the transformation of agricultural produce into finished and semi-finished goods.

The Cameroonian government introduced the import-substitution policy in 2021 to replace imports with locally produced goods. To encourage investments in domestic production and discourage imports, the government implemented various measures, including tax and customs incentives, as well as adjustments to excise duties on certain imported products.

Cameroon’s enormous market access potential and her seaports provide easy movement of finished goods in the CEMAC sub region and beyond.

Major agricultural exports include: Cocoa, coffee, cotton, bananas and rubber.

The main subsistence crops include: Plantains, beans, potatoes, yams, cassava (manioc), corn (maize), oil palm, millet, peanuts (groundnuts) & tomato, ginger and pepper.
